LEAH VERMA

Head of Operations and Finance, Contributor

Being a third-cultured high school student in the International Baccalaureate program in Singapore, doing Model United Nations and other relevant clubs, I am constantly exposed to people with multitudes of cultures, ethnic backgrounds, religions, sexual orientations, etc. I personally believe everyone has a responsibility to constructively act in any way they can when a problem arises. I believe that everyone should have the right to an equal treatment and not be discriminated against, or discriminate. Being the Head of Operations and Finance, I am in charge of managing the structure and finances associated with LAGC. Local Action for Global Change (LAGC) started when we saw the power of Black Lives Matter in the USA, and how important the issue was. Acting locally, I believe, is the most constructive form of activism, before going global and making a universal change. LAGC is a great way to gain information, publish your own articles by sending it to us, sign petitions and donate when you can, online right here. You can make a change. Start today on Local Action for Global Change.

Having completed the majority of my education in an International School, I have always been exposed to a multitude of cultures and religions, and have been taught to embrace them wholeheartedly. I believe that it is extremely important to use the privileges I have to make a difference. Therefore, I designed and created this website as a way to not only educate others, but to allow them to understand the harsh reality that people facing discrimination around the world experience. I think it is important to not only realise how fortunate I am to live in a first-world country with access to everything I could possibly need, but also to use that privilege to help those who need it – creating and contributing to this website is one of the many steps that can be taken to do so.

Growing up outside of my home country, I've always been exposed to a wide range of people - and taught the importance of diversity and equality.  This undoubtedly shaped the strong beliefs I hold today.  I passionately believe in equality for all, regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation or any other traits.  I believe those who are privileged have a responsibility to use that privilege to make the world a better, more equal place.  It is with these thoughts in mind that we created this website - to make it easier to educate yourself and take action.  Change starts at the bottom, and as such, I truly believe that the best way to make Global Change is Local Action.
